About Therapy

1948020778Life feels incredibly heavy right now.

It might even feel unbearable.

Perhaps you’ve lost a loved one, been dealing with a complicated relationship, or received a life-altering diagnosis.

Or maybe you’ve been enduring constant stress that’s been compounding over time. That’s often like sand in your shoe. You may not notice it at first, but as time goes on, it inevitably creates a blister.

Mired in uncertainty, you long for the way things were – for that sense of familiarity that now feels long gone.

Grief can be overwhelming, but…

When you’re here, you won’t have to carry it alone.

In grief counseling, you get a safe, comforting space where you can share your feelings without fear of judgment.

We’ll explore the emotions and challenges that come with your loss… at a pace that feels right for you.

Through gentle support and guidance, you’ll find moments of peace while honoring your loss.

Tears are a normal part of the process. After all, sadness is one of the prevailing emotions when we lose something we love.

But it’s not the only emotion. Humor is an important part of grieving, too. It can create connection, provide relief, and remind you of your humanity during the hardest of times.

In sessions, I might gently introduce humor to lighten the mood or help reframe a challenging situation, always keeping your comfort level in mind. It’s not about forcing laughter… but allowing it to emerge naturally as part of the healing process.

Sometimes, finding a way to smile amidst the tears is its own kind of therapy.

Taking small steps toward healing and renewal…

Progress looks different for everyone, but one of the major indicators of healing is when you can reflect on your loss without feeling emotionally overwhelmed. When you can sit with your grief without feeling consumed, you’re growing and transforming.

As we work together, I’ll help you recognize these moments and celebrate them as you move toward your “new normal.”

We’ll talk about your goals and explore what healing means for YOU.

I’ll welcome you to settle in… and give you a blanket if you’d like an extra layer of coziness.

About Amber Sirstad, LPC

HeadshotWhy I went into therapy…

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the human body (I even dreamed of becoming a doctor). At the same time, I felt drawn to the idea of being a therapist and supporting others emotionally and mentally.

While I was weighing these two paths, someone asked me a pivotal question: “What is more important or needed: support for the physical body or the emotional/mental body?” It wasn’t an easy answer, as both paths are incredibly important… but I knew where my heart was leading me.

And, to be honest… surgery and my shaky hands probably wouldn’t mix well!

I’m no stranger to grief.

I’ve experienced the heartache of losing loved ones and faced difficult conversations about my health.

I understand the longing for a gentle hand on your shoulder or a calm voice reassuring you that you’re not alone. Sometimes, simply being present with someone in pain is more powerful than anything words can convey.

In our time together, my focus won’t be on delivering profound or intellectual “insights” into grief. Rather, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported.

In my free time…

I love to immerse myself in the beauty of Mount Hood. Whether sitting on the back deck of Timberline Lodge admiring the summit and contemplating a future climb, hiking to the serene Umbrella Falls, or exploring the trails with my quad, Luna, these moments provide a perfect balance of reflection and adventure.

I enjoy baking. I like to call it “Master Chef’ing it.” However, my tendency to stray from exact recipes often turns my kitchen experiments into a costly adventure!

I am also a musician and enjoy spending time in my home studio playing the keyboard, rocking drums, or experimenting with new riffs on the bass guitar.

I have several solid self-care practices, but nothing truly compares to sitting with a dear friend in a quiet space and drinking a cup of coffee or tea with classical music in the background.
